Terminal Tackle Redefined

Fishing Stories

If you’ve ever wondered why you go to so much trouble making your bait presentation invisible to fish—using fluorocarbon lines and fine-wire hooks— but then tie in a gaudy metallic swivel that sticks out like a STOP sign, you’re not alone.

Meanwhile, toothy critter anglers face a different dilemma. Forever they’ve been stymied by expensive wire and leader material that immediately kinks; they’ve wasted precious fishing time changing out or otherwise rebuilding, retying and re-crimping replacement rigs and leaders; they’ve even lost fish because their old wire material didn’t stretch or absorb the shock of a hard-pulling predator. It’s why for years, anglers of pike, muskies, wahoo, kingfish and barracuda have sought a better solution.

It’s also why during the 2010 ICAST show, media and buyers who visited the Aquateko booth were so blown away by what they saw. Again and again, reactions to two new and revolutionary fishing tackle products were the same. You could see it in their eyes: These products are going to be super-heroes.

InvisaSwivel—the first and only transparent, neutrally buoyant swivel constructed with an advanced fluorocarbon material called “Fluoro-Clear.”

Knot2Kinky Nickel Titanium Wire—a totally user-friendly leader and rig material that is tieable and knotable, virtually kink-proof, corrosion-proof, and elastic, offering 10-percent stretch.

When Aquateko founder and owner Keith Kessler demonstrated the InvisaSwivel’s superior qualities, reactions at ICAST were inevitable and predictable. “Wow.” “No way.” “That is unbelievable.” Watching a swivel bend and flex 180-degrees in all directions is one thing. To see the same swivel recover with zero adverse affects to the transparent material or its free-spinning rotation is something else entirely. That InvisaSwivel is also corrosion-proof, self-lubricating, neutrally buoyant, and of course, virtually invisible underwater makes it the obvious choice when conditions necessitate the most natural presentation possible.
Next was Kessler’s Knot2Kinky stretch test. By applying significant pressure to either end of a 2-foot length of this new nickel-titanium leader, the wire would actually stretch, stop and recoil back perfectly—no kinks, no coils, no loss in tensile strength. Reactions to this demonstration reflected astonishment. Light bulbs flashed in heads. Previously difficult fish suddenly seemed within reach. Everyone wanted a piece of this new action.

“No matter where we go, demoing InvisaSwivel and Knot2Kinky wire,” says Kessler, “anglers’ can’t believe what they’re seeing. They immediately start thinking of ways they can use these products in their waters. They’re using InvisaSwivels for stealthy Carolina and dropshot rigs for bass; finesse ice-fishing applications; for ultra-selective redfish; even fly-fishing.

“Same thing for Knot2Kinky wire,” he continues. “We’ve had guys tell us that it’s the best thing they’ve ever used for pike and muskie leader, because it simply never kinks or corrodes. They can fish for days and weeks with just one leader. And they can tie new rigs in seconds. Of course, the stretch factor amazes everyone. We’ve even had anglers use it as a shock leader on giant tarpon and other powerful fish. At Aquateko, we’re all about innovative products that put anglers on more and bigger fish. Stay tuned. It’s going to be an awesome ride.”
