NORM SCHULTZ RETIRES FROM OHIO WATERWAYS
#1
COLUMBUS, OH - Mentor resident Norm Schultz, a prominent figure in Ohio's recreational boating community, retired from the Ohio Waterways Safety Council on March 17, following 26 years of service to the organization. The five-member citizen advisory council, appointed by the governor, provides input on boating issues to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.

"Norm has had a very extensive and distinguished lifetime commitment to representing Ohio's boating interests in diverse capacities," said Pamela S. Dillon, chief of the Division of Watercraft. "That commitment included 26 years of service on the Waterways Safety Council. He will be missed by Ohio's boating community."
Former Governor James A. Rhodes first appointed Schultz to the council in 1982. Schultz was reappointed by three subsequent Ohio governors to serve five successive terms that totaled 26 years.
Schultz is the current executive director of the Boating Associations of Ohio. He retired in 2006 as president of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association.
Among the many awards he has received from the recreational boating community for his service to the industry are the ODNR Cardinal Award, the Ohio Lake Erie Award presented by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission, the Boater of the Year Award presented by the Lake Erie Safe Boating Council and the Greater Cleveland Boating Association, the Irv Rosenthal Award presented by the Marine Retailers Association and the Meritorious Public Service Award presented by the U.S. Coast Guard.
.
In addition, Schultz is the founder and general manager of the North American In-Water Boat Show in Sandusky and the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show in Indiana. He is well known for his many years of service as general manager of the Mid-America Boat Show in Cleveland. Schultz remains active in the marine industry as a writer, guest lecturer and avid boater.
