In case any of you are interested in the new 13 Fishing Ghost reel, I took mine out for its first time Saturday. I set it up on a 13 Fishing Wicked rod I bought at Scheels last spring so it's the older style rod. Anyway I have a black Betty freefall reel and I really liked it so I was interested in the new Ghost since it is basically the same reel out of composites instead of metal and it saves you $40. Well I was concerned that it would never have the nice feel and smooth drop of the Betty, but it does. This reel is so nice, I love it. Now if you're not into the trigger drop its probably not for you, but if you've ever tried a trigger drop I think you probably love it like I do. You can drop your jigs right on target and it is so smooth. Couple things I'm struggling with, the star drag seems to be backwards to me in direction so my first fish I lost because the drag wasn't right and I went the wrong way when I tried to adjust it. Just perch and gills so it wasn't the only fish of the day so it wasn't a big deal. One other thing I don't like is the double reel handles other than that I love the way you can put a finger on the spool to aid in fighting fish. The drag is really nice once you adjust it. Price is around $70, but a few places have dropped it a bit if you watch for a sale. I like this one and am glad I have it. It keeps your line straight with no kinks, you have a line drop speed adjustment that lets you tailor the decent speed so even tiny jigs go down fairly quick. It's almost the perfect ice fishing reel. I still like the regular spinning reel when I'm fighting a fish or reeling in, but I hate the kinky line deal so for pan fish and smaller trout the ghost is a wonderful reel. When I get a big fish on it I'll let ya know how it does. Sorry I can't remember the name of the line but I love it. I'll add that later as I find it. Was using one of those tungsten bead jigs 1/16 oz and it dropped so fast I had to cut the decent rate with the adjustment. Any questions let me know and I'll try and post a picture tomorrow if I remember to pull it out and take a photo. Later J
