2 summers ago BLM and I tried it. It didn't work out well. We caught nothing or one and lost a lot of weights. We were fishing very rocky points with hard drop offs that we couldn't troll over and had a hard time keeping the boat over (pre electric motor and windy days). I'm almost positive it would work with the right bait (live Rainbows). But draggin the fake stuff just didn't do it for them.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]Actually I do think the technique is a sound presentation for lake trout. We tried it when the wind came up and used the wind to drift us across Linwood Bay draggin' junk the whole way. No, we didn't hook up but in the right situation, it would work great. Heck, Ask Tomegun, if its a bass technique and it'll catch Bass then it'll catch fish![/size][/black][/font]

Yeah but thats cause tomegun thinks all fish are bass.
I tried to tell him trout and panfish arent bass but he wont listen.

Now, dmack, the trick to drop shotting live rainbows is to use a big drop shot weight.
Them pesky trouts can lift and drag around a standard drop shot weight.
The only place you can get the proper size drop shot weights for live rainbow dropshotting is in IFG's basement workshop.

Its a custom thing. The tackle stores wont carry any of the IFG creations since they are all illegal in thier application.

Drop shoting works but you need about 3 to 5 feet between your hook and weight MOJO of coarse and the #136 tub bait...

Two years ago- Me, a Silly Pie-rite, and a gay Mad-Scientist went up to Bear Lake in the fall to do some fishing. I did put on a small clinic for the folks out on the "Rockpile", but I digress.

I rigged a double drop shot rig. The difference is I use a jig as my bottom weight. On the upper hook, I would either texas rig a fluke or wacky rig a Maniac stickbait. My bottom lure was a Strike King 3X plastic Ztoo(a floating fluke made by Strike King).

You can also sweeten your presentation with your favorite meat. Chubs, cisco, or any minnow.

[cool][#0000ff]I wonder whose doorstep will be first visited by representatives from DWR, looking for "evidence". We may not take ourselves seriously, but they just might.[/#0000ff]

I always figure that if you can't laugh at yourself.......then you can't laugh at anybody. I guess if people in general don't know us well enough by now to understand we are having a little fun with what will surely be a long standing and long running joke, then it is their loss not ours. They should hang out awhile and get to know us or go jump in their favorite fishing hole. I wonder if they ever joke about hitting themselves in the back of the head with their own fly when casting? (I do it every trip when there is a little wind blowing) I almost fall in the water laughing at myself and thinking I should probably wear a helmet!) [Tongue]

Joke? Joke!!!! What's the joke??? I thought slimer's were the joke.
I thought the hatcheries were the midnight bait shops...that's why they have all the different sizes to choose from. They even provide a u-haul tanker to keep them alive till you reach the lake. [Smile]

As for lint lures...I thought that's what all the rage in body piercing was and what novice fly fisherman...using those gold headed bead flies was all about. News to me...that they're not for piercing but for fishing. [crazy]

I knew it...slimer's will eat anything. [cool]

I think sometimes there is as much 'fishing' done here and on uotf as there is on the LP on a saturday afternoon[Wink]

What is UOTF? Is that a stupid question?
