It got me thinking about my Angler's Best electric fillet knife and how dull it's getting from cutting through those bones, especially stripers at Powell. I just checked the Cabela's website and discovered they sell a new set of 9 1/2 inch blades for $8.99, and also carry new blades for American Angler, Rapala, and Mister Twister knives. Most people probably knew that, but it was great news for me. I'll have to run up the street and see if they have them in the store. Has anyone had a lot of success with sharpening those blades?[/font]

[cool][#0000ff]I have a little diamond hook hone, with a flat side and a rounded side. (in the center of the pic below) [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I use the rounded side to touch up the grooves between the points and to make sure the points of the serrations are sharp. After that, I use a regular butcher's steel on the flat side of the blade to remove any burrs. That makes a big difference if you do it once in awhile. It takes some time, but is worth it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Once your blades are truly trashed, from too many big fish ribs...or kids cutting up Barbie Dolls or whatever...buying new blades is the way to go.[/#0000ff]

Once you've gotten to where you can't sharpen them any more, you can get replacements at Wallys World or Cabelas.[cool]

[black][size 3]I'm in the same boat with the dull blades. I pretty much ruined them while trying to clean some rock hard frozen fish that I had left on the ice when fishing at Scofield a few weeks ago. I sharpened the blades, but I have not tried to use them since then - I'll have to go out and catch some fish to see if I was successful in my sharpening attempt.[/size][/black]
