I spoke with a guy at the store today and he told me that out on Mantua their are poeple running thier AVTs and snowmobiles out there. He said the fishing was good action but everything was small. I was just wandering if anyone has heard anything different than what he told me.

I Fished Mantua the last four days, 3 Days at the boat dock side of the Lake, and Yesterday on the East side of the Lake. There indeed was a couple ATV's out on the lake and i also saw snowmobile Tracks (Personally i still think it's pushing it). You also have Warm springs in Mantua to deal with, and with the warming weather today probably not a good idea.As for the fishing we Caught lots of nice size Bass, Bluegill, and a few good Perch. There is also Lots of Trout being caught.Hope this helps.

I went out today (Fri) and I would agree that ATV's are pushing it. From the left over tracks they made that I walked over, it wasn't something I'd do personally! [

Fishing was slow for all those I talked to, but I wouldn't call what I did today fishing, para sailing with hooks would be more like it!!!! [laugh] The slush had melted and the top of the ice was water, and it was as slick as glass in spots. And when the wind kicked up... well... I hope I didn't lose too much gear in the buckets that blew all the way to the north shore... [crazy] My sled had at LEAST 30 lbs of gear in it and gusts had me chasing that as well. That's when we tried to take the hut down and the rings bent on the exterior ropes and hit my son and knocked him completely over. His butt was 2.5 feet in the air and his legs were above that! I hate to think what would have happened had I not been successful in diving for the rope. We were soaked all the way thru after being drug for 10 yards in the water hanging on to it.
Once it started raining, I decided I'd had enough fun for the day. At the time - I wished I'd stayed home. But in hindsight, it's too bad those there didn't get our folly on film. I bet we could have won $$ on some "funny things caught on film show! [

Let's hope for some cold night temps to get the ice back on track...

You made me hurt for ya!!!!!!! Hope your boy doesn't get soured by this. My boy got soaked at rockport last year. He toughed it out but hasn't wanted to go since.
Better luck next time.

Fortunately, this will not sour my oldest (13) of two sons. In fact, we are still laughing about it - 'cept I'm sure he's gonna have a bruise where he landed! [sly]
It's my youngest (9) that has been (more) soured in that he got skunked, again... He a very active boy and just doesn't have the patience to fish thru the ice, and he's rarely paying attention when the strikes happen... I dunno if I'm going to get him out too often. It's not like I can promise him the 50 fish day like the buddy I went out with got the day before. Life has many lessons to teach us whether we like them or not.
If you guys have any advice on how to keep a kid interested when it's a tough sell - I'd love to hear it. [

I don't want to push him. But the ice is gonna be thick, and the sun's gonna be a shinin' before I ask him to go out again. [

The up side is that my wife goes out once a year with me - she hates the cold. But what was a surprise to me too 'bout this new hut (I learn fast, but I'm new to ice fishing) was how you could see the fish thru the hole this way! (In the short time we were in it! [sly]) She wants to go out again just to view the fish again from the hut! [

Always gotta look on the bright side of things. Like maybe I'll get there again to retrieve those buckets that blew away, but I'll return with ice skates!!

I fished mantua today the ice was about 8 inches. and the water in some spots was 4 inches. It was a slow day 1 bluegill, 1 bass and a 12 inch perch. Not has fast as it was last week. The wind was a problem it broke my buddies ice tent I can't remember the name of his tent. It is the same thing as the Ice cube. It broke 3 of the poles. Pineviewfisher

I also fished Mantua yesterday. My friend and I did fair it was a slow day. I think we ended up with 4 trout, 1 big bass, 6 perch and 1 bluegill. The wind was crazy, and the ice sure was slippery.

So did we. I caught 11 'bows and only 2 perch. And I was hoping for enough perch to fillet them for dinner.
