Full Version: What rod and reel combo should I get?

I recently slammed my pole in the trunk the other day on accident and consequently broke my small river pole past the second eyelet(sp?). Plus I was getting tired of my reel not casting very far even with braided line. I'm looking for an affordable rod and reel combo that is small and sensitive, perfect for the rivers. What do you recommend? Just out of curiosity has anyone used any of the Cabella's brand reels? I imagine they're made by a big reel company with the Cabella's name stamped on it. Mostly I want a reel that is indestructible and reliable.

Also I'd like to get a good lake pole that is versatile that I can use for both bass and cats. One that has some rigidity and a reel that holds a descent amount of string. What do you recommend?

For a rod, look at Bass Pro Shops "tourney special" rods. I really like them and own serveral models and they are relatively inexpensive. Cabelas' reels are good, but you'll have to find one that YOU like and will suit YOUR needs.
