QuaSome of the hard deck favorite fish'n places are now upon us.

So with that being said, you'll need to stock up and check out 'all' the necessary ice fish'n equipment.

If you don't have a quality bite indicator you'll miss them hookups is all I'll say...the hard deck bite is very, very suttle and soft as you die-hard ice deckers know.

An ice-rod without a quality spring bobber ya just ain't going to see this bite. Including jaw-jacking and not paying attention will also allow one to miss hook-ups

Maybe they'll carry these in Utah but I haven't been able to find them the last couple of years.

Well worth the money plus MADE IN THE USA and sooooooooo much better than those cheap spring thingies...all of those went in the trash when I stumbled upon these a few years ago at Sportsman Wharehouse in Riverdale...but like I said I haven't seen them since...only the cheapy ones.

I agree with you with one exception. I believe that MGB could catch fish ice fishing with a broomstick. Mike is truly amazing when it comes to "feeling" the bite.

They showed us those indicators at the Ice clinic at Sportman's Warehouse. But they didn't have them in stock - I think they were hoping to get some in. But with the double wire system they seemed more steady, and stable.

I'd be glad to know the URL for ordering online (please PM if you don't wanna post). Don't personally see a problem posting it, assuming you're not the guy making a profit on it. Though I could see the moderators move it to the tackle thread. What is the product name?

i hate spring bobbers have tried them many times i think they are junk.i wouldnt waste a good rod to one.no offense.

I'm with you on this one. No spring bobbers for me, it ruins the precise jigging actions that I want to impart to the lure. Also, the hook set is somewhat impeded too. I also don't like short ice fishing rods. I prefer my 5ft ugly stick. Ice fishing rods have poor hook setting capacity to me. I'm pretty sure I can detect most faint sniffs. Been doing it forever. The line will always move a tiny tiny bit with the lightest take if you watch really closely.

If you want to see how many bites you are really missing go to an underwater camera. You will see fish come up and suck a bait such as a waxie in and never move the line or bobber, nine times out of ten when you see part of the waxie disappear set the hook and he's there. Been ice fishing since the late 50's and things have changed alot since then as far as gear and clothing. Thanks for the post Kim. [fishin]

Those are awesome bobbers. I just found a few at bass pro shops up in Denver Colorado, but their site does not carry them. They were 2 for $3...good price. The only other ones that I have found that compare were homemade by a dude in a tube.

My two main go-to ice rods have those spring bobbers on them. I think they really serve the purpose ... at least for small fish like trout and smaller.

Jason Mitchell has the identical spring bobber rod setup that avoids shrink wrap etc.. Best spring bobbers IMO on the market are the St Croix legend rods but they are expensive. Another option also from Jason Mitchell is the meat stick. Doesn't have a spring bobber just a super sensitive tip but enough backbone to land anything. Cabelas carried them last year. Have two of the meatsticks and 3 St Croix legends and those are the only rods I use to chase panfish through the ice. Been ice fishing for over 20 years and I have tried a lot of rods and those two are my picks. Thorne Bros out of MN sells a rod called a quiverstick that is the bomb for icing panfish but costs twice as much as the meat stick - it is worth it if you can part with the money. Just google the names and check out their offerings. Mitchell is out of the Dakotas and Thorne Bros is in MN where ice fishing is more popular than open water and people are very serious about their gear.

Yup, Pat helps out a ton of people and posts to help others as well. There are some on here (you) that only post attacks and under others' posts, I am glad that some post helpful things.
