I am in the market for a fish finder for primary use on my 14' aluminum but that would also do a good job on the ice in the winter. Lowrance vs Hummingbird? Are there any units under $300 or so that would get the job done for a newb?

I use the Humminbird 346 color with down imaging on my boat and works great with the color flasher view for ice fishing. of course down imaging doesn't work for ice but the rest is good. Also have a 345 color that I use on the front of the boat and wife uses it for ice fishing.
