Miss September with scuba gear. Not too much scuba gear.[Smile] As long as money isn't an issue.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw a post like this. They are all good these days. You spend enough money and they all have incredible features. I'm a Lowrance guy but only because that's what I'm used to.

Normally I would say Lowrance, however, since Garmin acquired them, their customer service has gone out the door. While I have two Lowrance units on my boat, I am considering selling the front one and purchasing a Hummingbird that will be compatible with a new Minn Kota Terova trolling motor.

In looking at what is out there, Garmin has some new features, as does Lowrance, as does Humminbird. There is also Ray Marine and a couple of units that are tops in Salt Water, so my suggestion is find one that has the features you want and buy it !!!
I agree, any unit can be the best if it does what you want it to...Ice Fishing? I like Marcum's Showdown...easy to use and understand...top of the screen is top of the water column, and bottom of the screen is bottom of the lake...most anything in between is either fish, or your bait/lure...and your eyes don't have to spin around in that circle[cool]

Im a big fan of our Humminbird 999HD KVD edition.
for about the same reason as listed above, it was the first good quality sonar we bought came from a garmin basic "fish finder" (you know, the kind that just shows a little fish picture when your on 'em)
so its what I learned on & am starting to understand it better

Money is no object when it comes to my sonar/GPS. Lowrance HDS. I prefer the Gen 2, not the touch, so my screens stay cleaner. Love the hot keys. I have two that run 120 days a year, 8-10 hours a day. Customer service? I haven't had to send back a Lowrance since 2003, and they're all I use. I don't worry about slower service, if it really is, when I only need it once every couple of decades. Maybe the others need more service.

I would have the same company that installs the radar system on the US Navy ships install a fishfinder on my boat. I was told of someone who did exactly that. He harvests crawdads for a living and he drops his crawdad traps up and down the Snake River. He is able to find and retrieve them by seeing them on his fish finder screen. He can see wide sections of the river and he can see the scutes on the side of the sturgeon.

Why would I want this, because if I could quickly locate where the sturgeon are at any given time it would greatly increase my catch rate.
