It was time to run up the berry, 345 alarm set, woke up at 343 before the alarm and ready to fish!! Just missed the opening of the boat inspection station on the way up (whew) . we Launched out of strawberry bay marina just before 6am sunday - nice and cool out in the morning. first couple hours brought moderate success with a few slot cutts and one Koke around Hawes point - pulled in the gear and ran the boat up towards the northern end of the lake to troll "the kokanee highway" a self named trolling run i marked on my humminbird last year -deep water trolling with 2 down riggers and 2 lead core setups. shortly after we get our spread setup the winds really kicked up and so did the waves. whitecaps and rollers in the 2 foot range steadily. we were really getting beat up out there but my deep v is made for such conditions. this area produced 2 really nice sized Kokes (2.5 lb range) - on the downriggers w/ hoochies and about a dozen more cutts from 14-20 inches. tough to keep your speed steady with the waves pounding like it was but we did ok all things considered. glad we had 3 of us in the boat because you didnt want to take your hands off the steering wheel. we rode the waves until about 1 . the sea looked really Angry from shore after we pulled the boat out. lookin forward to fresh kokanee for dinner tonight . no pics , phone stayed in a dry compartment in the boat.

I'm with you, when the wind picks up I'm heading for shore. Don't mind a little wind but when the white caps start I'm long gone. I got caught up in a storm that started up so fast that scared the heck out of me. Ever since then I started heading for shore and loading the boat when the wind picks up. I have a Bass Tracker semi-v that beats the heck out of you when going fast against the waves so I pretty much keep track of wind speed and get off the lake.

my boat handles the rough water pretty good, its really wide and has a deep v, never got uncomfortable with the conditions- did notice the lake emptied out pretty good once it kicked up - we saw 3 people in a really small rowboat like boat cruising around with a jet ski - i wouldnt of wanted to be in that thing .we kept an eye on them incase of trouble

When that happens at the Gorge, it can be pretty easy to slip into a cove, but at Strawberry, as the others have said, it's definitely time to get off the water - sure glad you made it back in safely.
JJ we are headed back up Weds. to try for some more kokanee if you happen to be in the area give us a shout. We haven't been there since I last chatted with you on the phone.
