Rockport Shore Report - joshomaru - 08-13-2024 My youngest boy wanted to do some more fishing with his old man, so we went up to Rockport early Sunday morning. Hit the west side before the sun came up. Third cast brought a fair sized smallie on a crank, about 12". Too bad it was the only fish of notable size for the rest of the day! Boy and I caught a ton of smallies and perch on small cubby jigs, boy loves to throw a fly and bubble and caught all his on this combo. But most were 4-5". Had fun, watched and listened to the osprey nest with their brood, that was rad. A couple of herons hung out by us; they're always neat to watch! We also tried from the beach on the park side and had same results. Shoreline got muddy once the power squadron reared its ugly head. We did see a herd of turkeys come through on the park side, which was super cool, too. All in all, not a bang up day for us, but we had fun! There are a ton of small smallmouth in Rockport. When it cools down a little and the power boats dissipate, he and I will try again from our kickboat and float tube for their parents, and try and get a dinner's worth of keeper perch. RE: Rockport Shore Report - RockyRaab2 - 08-13-2024 Kudos for a great report, especially for using the correct "he and I". RE: Rockport Shore Report - JArner - 08-13-2024 Thanks for sharing the report. Sounds like you had a great day building memories. RE: Rockport Shore Report - wiperhunter2 - 08-13-2024 Always good to get the kid out and have a good time with him, even if most of them were on the smaller side. Were there many other bank tangler in the area you were fishing? RE: Rockport Shore Report - joshomaru - 08-13-2024 Curt, there were a number of people that showed up after 0900, and all the public parking spaces along the highway got pretty busy as the day progressed. We were down to the point we picked to hike to by 0615, and as it was getting lighter, I only saw two other people from our vantage point until after 0900. There were a few yak fisherman around the boat ramp area, but I didn't see anyone hooking up. When I read the "boy and I" it reminded me of the old Tarzan series I use to watch. |
