My youngest boy wanted to do some more fishing with his old man, so we went up to Rockport early Sunday morning. Hit the west side before the sun came up. Third cast brought a fair sized smallie on a crank, about 12". Too bad it was the only fish of notable size for the rest of the day!
Boy and I caught a ton of smallies and perch on small cubby jigs, boy loves to throw a fly and bubble and caught all his on this combo. But most were 4-5". Had fun, watched and listened to the osprey nest with their brood, that was rad. A couple of herons hung out by us; they're always neat to watch! We also tried from the beach on the park side and had same results. Shoreline got muddy once the power squadron reared its ugly head. We did see a herd of turkeys come through on the park side, which was super cool, too.
All in all, not a bang up day for us, but we had fun! There are a ton of small smallmouth in Rockport. When it cools down a little and the power boats dissipate, he and I will try again from our kickboat and float tube for their parents, and try and get a dinner's worth of keeper perch.
