Mantua and Bear River Report - timberhall - 08-01-2008 Fished the Bear River out of my inflatable boat yesterday near Corine. We fished in the evening from about 6:30 till 9:30. Only caught a few 12" catfish. The mosquitoes turned on at 9:30 reel hard and we were out of there. Then we took the boat to Mantua this morning. It took a few minutes. It took about 15 minutes to find the right spot and then it was on like Donkey Kong. We caught a few nice perch, and Smallies. We had the bluegills going nuts. We left about 12:00 when we decided out sun burns were bad enough. Over all a good day. [signature] Re: [bassrods] Mantua and Bear River Report - timberhall - 08-01-2008 Maybe they were large mouths. I am not a bass fisherman so I could be wrong. [signature] Re: [timberhall] Mantua and Bear River Report - bassrods - 08-02-2008 Look in the proclamation book they have some great pictures of all the fish, when I first caught bass I couldn't tell them apart... [signature] Re: [bassrods] Mantua and Bear River Report - trout_slayer - 08-02-2008 What did the proc say about Smallmouth in Mantua Bassrods??? Just curious, because to my surprise also, when I was there last I passed the board that has a map of the lake and the species of fish in it and it said it had smallmouth in it along with Largemouth. Never heard of anyone catching a smallie out of there and you would think they would run ramped in there!!! Good topic to bring up though!!! We dont need anything messing up the largemouth population. We only have a couple good Largemouth lakes left, lets not ruin any! let the largemouth go! that goes double for you Leaky!!![sly] [signature] Re: [timberhall] Mantua and Bear River Report - lunkerhunter2 - 08-04-2008 There ARE smallies in there. i caught a bunch quite a few years ago. [signature] Re: [timberhall] Mantua and Bear River Report - Old462 - 08-04-2008 I was fishing from shore at Mantua Sunday AM and was watching a smallmouth defend it's territory under a rock from the other tiny fish that hang out near shore. Made for fun viewing while standing there.
