Rapala Purpledescent

I am way overdue providing readers a review of this Rapala plug. I have used Rapalas for years for a variety of species, but used this new color for the first time this past winter on Lake Roosevelt. We caught rainbow and kokanee on this lure, and it was a favorite on the big reservoir through the fall and winter with anglers. I was so impressed with the new color that I used it for triploids on Rufus Woods and it worked great there, too. I use both the size 7 and the larger size 9 in the floating model, and pinch the barb down when fishing above Chief Joseph Dam. I also remove the treble hooks and sometimes add a barrel swivel to the split ring and attach the single siwash hook to that. I have a lot of Rapalas in a wide range of colors, and this one is my first choice when I open my box to fish plugs for trout, kokanee and triploid rainbow.

[indent]What do you mean by Triploid Rainbow? Is that different than any other Rainbow?

Yes, they are different in one very important way; they don't have sperm or eggs. Thus, more energy goes into growth, and they don't breed with wild fish. Read the article above. Mike

It has actually been around for about 5 years now and is my go to rapala in south east idaho i bought a couple the very first day that sportsmans ever put them on their shelves and havnt switched back to a brown or regular rainbow pattern since. oh i also throw the hot steel pattern also it is similar to the purple descent. both work fantastic.
