Turtles in Mead - lvfishingdude - 12-01-2011 i thought i would share this with you since it came up on alan's forum.... there are some massive turtles in mead! here are a few pics of a huge turtle i caught near our houseboat at echo bay this past summer. Was fishing for catfish using shrimp and ended up catching it instead. Took me a while to get the hook out b/c i forgot to bring pliers. It was small and I hooked it in the corner of the mouth. Fortunately I did bring pliers so I grabbed the shank of the hook and with a quick snap of the wrist it was gone. I believe there was a thread about eating turtles a while back. anyone try them yet? As I was unhooking one, an Asian dude ran up and asked for it. I had no problem dropping it in his cooler, and he was happy as a clam. Hope I wasn't breaking any laws.... I'm sure they are a no-take species or something.
