Welcome to the site Wyo307, nice laker you have there, was it caught at the Gorge? Have you found the Wyo board yet, if not here is a link to that board:

No that is a Boulder Lake fish........a little closer to home for me than the gorge. I am hoping to hit the gorge within the next week though! I've got the itch to get the boat out!

Did you weigh it or measure it? Do you fish in Utah much?

My scale actually broke that trip, no really it did! I caught a bunch of fish that day and it finally just kicked the bucket. It was a little over 39" so I guessed it in the 24-26lb range. I have my first 20 pounder on the wall off that same lake and it was 20.8lb at 36 1/2" so I think my estimate is close. I lost one that day at the boat that was bigger than that too probably in the 30ish pound area, would have been my biggest to date. It is super fun fishing them that time of the year (november) because they are in super shallow water (less than 15ft) which allows you to cast to them. Absolute riot!
I travel to fish about as much as my wife/pocket book will allow. I just read your report on Bear Lake and I have been wanting to get down there so it is killing me. Especially since I can't go on my yearly lake Powell trip next month I am itching to get my boat out somewhere. I also would love to fish Willard at some point this year. It has been on my list for a few years but haven't found the time to do it. I love catching stripers in LP but I have never gotten a wiper before. [signature]

Nice, I did not know that lake had macks that large in it but we don't get many post from there either. Were you trolling or jigging?
There is another post on the Utah board about BL that another member posted yesterday. That lake does not get any macks as impressive as you do on your home water but it does produce some impressive cutts. Willard can be fun when it bite is on but it's pretty slow this time of the year. It should start picking up in a few weeks but May, June ans July are the best months to fish Willard. [signature]

Ya I know there isn't a laker in Bear Lake that would really get me excited. If I went I would be looking for that 10lb cut.
I was trolling when I was catching those fish. I change between trolling and jigging depending on the time of year. I knew that Willard was a summer bite I was thinking about doing a few days there and then a few at Pineview to see if I can't scratch the tiger musky off the list finally. I'm only about 25000 casts into that one so far lol. That would be a fun little trip though. [signature]

Welcome aboard Wyo307. Thanks for taking the time to register and thank you for the nice report.
I love Lake Trout and the tug they put on the line. I used to fish for them in Bear Lake. They call them Mackinaw there although they are of the same species also known as Char. We look forward to your further reports. [fishon] [signature] |
