I dont know much about ice fishing for macks.
But I can give you a bit of info. No, you dont need an atv or snow mobile to fish the gorge. Lots of guys get into the macks every year without one.
You will be much more mobile, and its always nice to not have to haul all your gear around. But its not a must have to catch fish.
You can walk out into linwood, its not oo bad a walk. A walk to the pipeline would suck. But if you have the will I am sure you could do it.
We dont have a lot of guys who ice fish the gorge around. Tons that fish it in the summer, but the ice seems to draw only a few BFTer's.
The attached pic is skeeter with a mack he caught on the gorge. I dont believe he used a atv or snow mobile to get to where he caught it.
Cant remember for sure what he used to catch it. He like sot use odball junk sometimes so its never safe to say what he was using.
