I'll probably be there too with my kids. What part of the lake will you be at?

We should have a Grand ole time. I haven't taken my boy ice fishing before. I have finally purchased enough quality equipment for my boy that we should stay warm. Oh well! I will see you then!

I fished Echo last Sat morning. Be careful where you enter the ice if you don't go to the ramp. We had to scale the rocks at the shore line for about 1000 yards before we found a safe place to walk out on the ice. There is a new 1 to 2 " thick layer of ice around the shore with about 1 foot of water under it before you reach the old ice under that. We were closer to the dam than the ramp. Standard rigs fished on the very bottom did well for perch. We never found the trout though. Perch meat worked better than wax worms because it stayed on the hook longer.I hope the snow they call for doesn't give us too much grief. I will be at Rockport with my wife.I will have my radio on channel 12 at Rockport DKS

The biggest thing about taking your boy is make sure he stays warm. This includes keeping his hat, gloves and coat on as much as possible and not stepping in any holes or in the water along the edge of the ice or laying in the snow/slush while out on the ice. Also, focus on his fishing rather than your own at least while he's interested (which may not be very long). My kids get bored long before I do even if we are catching lots of fish (they're spoiled). We usually bring a sled so they can sled down the hill if it comes to that.
Just a few things I've learned the hard way.

That's great advice. And if that doesn't work, bring a rope and duct tape like I do. Just kidding.

Thanks for the help!
I know we will have a good time. I will have to remember that I need to take care of him more and me less. I am a pretty attentive dad already, but it is always good to get advice.
We are going to take one of his buddies down the street and his dad (a good friend of mine) will be there too. Between the two of us, we should have a good time and keep these two yahoos occupied and maybe catch a few fish. I took some scouts a few weeks ago, and they all caught fish so we had a good time. Tomorrow is the first of hopefully many trips with my boy. He is a twin the other a cute little girl that expresses a lot of interest in fishing and hunting too. They also have a little brother who worships the ground they both walk on. Between them all, we should have many years of great trips ahead. My wife is now feeling like the kids are all old enough that we can go and have fun together without too many worries. They are really well behaved too, they are just 5 year olds.
Tomorrow though, will be just me and my boy and our buddy's. We'll see you then! Firehawk
