went up to the berry today. it was only a morning trip so numbers are a bit down. i fished the marina in 23 ft of water. used standard ice jigs tipped with bait. i pulled 5 cutts out and my bud landed 2. i litterally missed another 20 different fish. i was so frustrated with all the swinging and missing. i missed so many. had another 3 that got off half way up. the bite was extremely lite. it was almost impossible to see the bite on the indicator so i used the good old red and white bobber trick. it was much easier to see the bite with that bobber trick. the cuts at the berry are always movin and lookin for an easy meal. all i can tell you guys is you are having bites in most locations you are fishing as long as you are in around or shallower than 25 ft and using tubes, paddle bugs, or foxees tipped with meallys or powerbait. most of the time you cannot see the bite when using the indicator. without the bobber trick i would have landed 2 fish and not have seen near as many bites as i did. any way the biggest went 21 inches. i started at about 8:30 and left at 12, had to go to work. out of 30 other groups, around 50 to 60 people, i did not see one land a fish.
heard from a group who talked to the ranger that the low was 24 below zero. it was a cold night the slc valley got to 1 degree above last night. it was 22 below when i got there.
good luck all, pm if you want info on how to rig the bobber trick. it makes the difference between being skunked and catchin plenty.

I found that the bobber trick (if you mean rigging it so that it falls off when one sets the hook) is a great way to go at night. It is extremely difficult for me to see at night -- even with a bright lantern; however, those small red and white bobbers are very visible.

Out smarting those cold blooded critters is part of the challenge, frustration and enjoyment. I wish I could get away during the week like that. Sounds like you had a great time. Hey, a question. What was the ice, slush and snow condition on the ice? Does the surface pose any problems for ATV's after all the snow?

yeah there is a threat for atvs. the snow on the ice was one and a half feet with about 4 to 6 inches of slush underneath that. saw one atv and it looked like it was not havin fun at all. the slush and new snow was horrible. yes the stupid thermal layer of slush at the base of the snow is back. according to a trip in the morning of tuesday the 10th.

Oh great!!! I hate it when we get these conditions. It makes travel in any form difficult. I like to get away from the crowds, but that will not happen now without a lot of extra work and extra time to cover the needed distance. Thanks for the update, I think.

Here's another great little bobber set up.You'll need to pick up a pack of "Bobber Stop's" which is a very small peace of plactic {1/8 in. wide 1/4 in. long} with four tiny holes in it that you thread your line threw, then you put on a small red bead, again very small. The small peace of plactic will slid up and down your line with no trouble. You can set the plactic at any depth you want to fish.I like to use a small clear water bubble, run the line threw the bubble, and tie on your offering, jig, ice fly , what ever.Your bait will fall to the depth you have set with the plactic, To adjust just slid the plactic, you'll drop to the same depth ever time. You can take a red Sharpie and color the bubble, stands out very well, or at night glow tape.
Set this rig up the night before in the comfort of your home, Like I said this stuff is small, you don't want to be at Burrrberry, at -20 trying to do this!! They come two to a pack for $.60,, cheep and they work very well.
