Been watching the progress of the Smith Family Park and Fish Pond at the Smith & Edwards turn off toward the south Willard marina. Guess it opened up a couple weeks back. I went to Bear River yesterday in hopes of catching a carp cuz I'm out of Cat bait. Well got skunked for a couple hours, then the wind started picking up. Forecast had been for 15 - 25 mph winds, and I wasn't doing any good anyway, so I called it a day.
Coming back down the freeway I remembered the Smith Pond, so got off and stopped at the pond awhile. It's a very nice family park, lots of grass, playground equipment, a couple of large gathering pavilions, nice clean rest rooms, and the pond is quite nice looking.
Well I tried to drown some of the worms I had, and just as forecast, the wind really started kicking up. Was blowing white caps on the pond.........[:/].
Went back up this morning while it was real calm. Finished off the worms and actually landed a couple, one small Wiper, and one even smaller Mud Cat.
The park and pond are not totally finished yet, and I guess there is a plan to build some upscale homes around it.
Looks like it could be a nice place to take my grandson in a year or so for his first introduction to fishin. And if he isn't catchin, he can play on the nice playground.
I just hope the folks using it help keep it nice and clean like it is now.
Have fished several other community ponds with varied amounts of success. But at some time, sooner or later, the folks that do nothing but "harvest" the stocked fish and leave their waste behind, ruin something that should be enjoyed by everyone. It is even beginning to be that way up on the Bear River. Each time I go to the river, I collect up a bag of anglers waste.....worm tubs, drink cans, Wally world bags, big gobs of fishin line someone has cut off to remove a big tangle and other such man made stuff that someone packed it and just left.
"Pack it in, Pack it out !! And take stuff some other slob left behind as well. [mad][mad][mad]
