Strawberry 9/26 - A Windy Slaughter!
#1
Hit the berry Sat with my buds, ended up just renting one of the Marina's pontoons which was nice and convenient. Hit the water around 0800, headed to East Portal, slight breeze which was perfect! Immediately started catching slot cutts every cast. Everyone around us was nailing them as well. 3" white tube jigs with a 1/4 jig head was the ticket, quick retrieve in no less then 2-4' of water over 30-40' of water. Hits were aggressive with the usual tenacity of the cutts there. Wind really picked up around 1100, so we ventured into the narrows to seek shelter. Found a few cutts in there. Ventured back out to East Portal around 2pm, and the wind had died down enough to fish it effectively again. We picked up right were we left off. We estimate we ended up with around 100 + fish between the 4 of us. Unfortunately no slot busters this trip. We did get close a few times. Wonderful, yet windy day at the Berry! Gotta love fall fishing up there!
