Jig Fishing Epistle
#1
When BFT switched over to the new (and improved) format, all of the old files and pics archived in the old setup were lost.  There are quite a few of my "Pat's Epistles" for which I have received PM requests to send out to BFT members who lost ones they liked.

This is one that I originally wrote while still living in Arizona...prior to 2004...for a Utah member with whom I had been communicating.  He was anxious to learn more about jig fishing so I sat down at the keyboard and whacked out about 50 pages of drivel.  Seemed to work, since he has since become a proficient do-jigger and has passed on a lot of his knowledge to others over the years.  That's what it's all about.  Since then, I have rewritten it a couple of times and have added some "piscatorial pornography" (naked fish pictures).  Hope you like it.

I will probably restructure and post up some of the other past faves.  Since the new (and improved) version of BFT has some hinky limitations, I am having to rewrite a lot of my stuff to fit the sizing guidelines.  More work for me but happy to do it if fellow tanglers can use it and appreciate it.

This stuff is all in PDF format.  You can snag it off the website and save the files on your computer.  Or you can print them out if you want hard copies.  Or we can wait for another "upgrade" and lose it all again.

Ah yes. Thank you again for the time you put into these write ups. Fun to read and every once in awhile a light goes off.

Nice write up, wish I'd have had something like this way back when I started tossing jigs.

Me too.  Woulda saved a lotta "R &D".  But as with most things in life, the journey is it's own reward.  And it's kinda like collecting seashells on the beach.  You pick them up one at a time and someday you have a great collection.

Lol, I hear ya on the R & D, trial and error, frustration. I used to hate finding a great jig color and then losing it, only to find out that I couldn't find it again, now with the price of things, glad I started making my own. Not being able to find plastics has drove me to making my own now and with the state of things this last year, I had a hard time finding rods, but easy to find rod part, so I do them now too. Love being self sufficient, building my boy a custom ice rod and some jigging spoons for Xmas.

Well, he tries anyway and has lots of fun trying.

And what is that supposed to mean?

I will have to give these a read. I enjoy your insight. If anyone ever doubts jig fishing, just give it some serious practice and you will be convinced of its fish catching abilities. I have lots of lures for ice fishing, but on open water I throw some sort of jig 90 percent of the time and do well. My friend teases me on my double twitch method of jigging, but getting a good jigging stroke will produce fish catches of all kinds. My two cents....

My lights tend to burn pretty dim but usually pick something up that I need to try.

Good reads once again Pat. Hopefully we'll not be changing formats for long time as its been pretty painful for us all, so glad you've stuck with us through it all, your knowledge and willingness to share info has been so helpful to our BFT members.

Why are the PDF links disappearing?

I downloaded all of these as I saw them, but when I went back, some of the month-old or older Threads, there are no links.

I don't want to miss one.

Blame it on a combination of the "new and improved" BFT format and my error of judgment.  There is a section in my personal account file that lists all of the attachments (PDF) I have posted.  I was doing some "housecleaning" and deleting all of my old PMs and deletions that had gone into the "trash" file.  While I was at it I cleaned out the records of the PDFs...thinking they would still stay in the original posts.  WRONG.  They disappeared after I deleted them from my files.

If there is anything you didn't save...or something you would like to see...let me know.  I know the guy who put together all that stuff...and I still have the originals to post.

Here ya go.  Hope it helps.

I had to break it up into several parts...each under 2mb...in order to get BFT to take it.
