Have not seen any Powell reports so here is one. Hit lake Powell on a 3 day trip to fish for a day LOL. That’s an inside joke. Fished North of Bullfrog and targeted walleye. We kept 25 walleye, lots of SMB caught a few LMB, Crappie and Stripers.
Walleye are in great shape, most about 1 1/2 pounds up to maybe 3 1/2 . We used a mixture of curl tail lost creek grubs, tubes and ned stick in green pumpkin or shad colors. The key was tipping with worm and fishing 10 to 25 feet deep. Bass were mostly shallow 5 to 10 ish, but we caught plenty incidental while fishing to catch walleye. Bottom bouncing with spinner crawler rigs was working well for those others we saw using them, key for that is finding areas with fish that is conducive to dragging bottom bouncers, many areas it is so up and down and Boulder covered it is hard to fish them. Guys were picking up a few walleye and stripers trolling crank baits. Bass action is very good, many are still spawning some are done. It will be good all summer, walleye action should be good through June, then it may slow down some . We got about 6 toad crappies not really trying we decided with low water and limited habitat we would cut them a break and we released what we caught to let them spawn and did not target them. Great time to hit Powell before it gets too hot. Water level is very low lots of new hazards stay in main channel when running and be carefull.
