Same story I got - the renewal will be pro-rated this year only to cover your last years pass running into this year.  I didn't ask, and don't know, if they will pro-rate it if you are a first-time buyer of the annual pass and buy it in say August.  I would doubt it.  You may want to hang on to the old pass until after you buy the new one.
