Just read the KSL story about the lightning striking the boat around mid night and the unfortunate loss of life for one of the three guys fishing... Man they must have wanted to fish pretty bad to stay out in a lightning storm at midnight... Sure sorry to hear the news for their family and friends, that is really terrible... Anyone know if they were part of our BFT family? I've always been warned about being in a boat during a thunder storm, but I didn't really ever think that I'd hear of anyone being struck by lightning near me... Kind of makes me re evaluate my actions when storms roll through... Think I'll take them more serious in the future... Especially with a metal boat now instead of glass... Condolences to family and friends for their loss..

All summer my weather app has really been missing most of the active weather.... and it seems like the storms have been really wild this year.. Guess the eye to the sky is always the best plan and don't wait for the strikes to get very close before you bug out... but that's hard to do...This situation makes me recalculate and I hope I'll be smarter in the future...

Best way to keep track of the weather while you're on a lake is the naked eye. If you can see it coming it's time to head to shore even if it's miles away. Looking at radar screens on your phone you don't know how old the picture is. A couple of fish is not worth losing your life for. Lighting is not predictable. Just because you can see it miles away it can still pop up where you are. Better safe than sorry.

If you can hear thunder, you are in danger. That's a fact.
Mr Pedantic says: the word is lightning. Not lightening or lighting. Lightening is removing weight. Lighting is illumination.

Thanks for the correction... my bad... J
Wouldn't let me correct spelling on the title of the post, sorry couldn't fix that part. I see today KSL released the name as a 24 year old from Ogden... Sorry to friends and family of Skylar.... Later J
