Well my wife took me to pellican lake for our 3rd anniversery. We stayed at the rodeway inn in vernal--kind of a dump, but it met our needs.
We left on Friday morning, and stopped at HFT for a few supplies and were in Vernal by 2pm. Attached is a picture of our rig.
We fished pelican on friday night and caught 5 bass right out in the middle on Watermellon with black flake senkos wacky rigged. There were quite a few people there and nobody was catching gills.
We fished all day saturday and caught a couple more bass and a bunch of gills. The bass were caught on senko and pearl curly tail, and the gills were caught on worm on jig head under a bobber. Most of the gills we caught were in 8-10ft of water out in the middle. We also caught some gills on wooley bugger, damsel nymph, and double renegade trailed behind a full bobber. Altogether we caught around 30 gills and 8 bass for the two days. We had much better luck out in the deeper water, could not get them to bite in the reeds---we are rookies and were probably doing something wrong. We fished all parts of the lake and had the best luck in the northeast corner. The weather was pretty much perfect all weekend and there were a ton of people out there Saturday, probably close to 100 boats and pontoons and tubers. A lot of them left around 1 or 2 when they figured the gills weren't "on" yet. All in all it was a great trip, thanks to kayote for the tips. And thanks to the wife for wanting to fish for her anniversery!
