Ventura Pier fishing report 6/11/04
#1
The pier rats got to Ventura Pier by 5:00pm. There was a mild breeze, warm wind and nice surf.

We started at mid pier and got us a few spotfin Croakers to use as bait for later on.

After about an hour we moved onto the end of the pier to set up for the evenings activities.

There was a reather large Brown Smoothhound Shark caught just to the left of us but we wouldn't be so fortunate. We did catch a 24inch Thornback Ray and a few more croakers. We pulled up several Red Crabs and released them as well as the Thornback.

Here is a picture of the Thornback. It measured out to 24inches.

We left at 11:30 pm to get ready for a trip the next morning at Castaic Lake.

Hi there TubeN2,

Caught a thornback on Izors reef at Horseshoe Kelp the other day! Those guys must be all over the place and not just in shallow water.

Sorry about the lackluster results for your efforts. Still... it was worth the trip I'll bet.

Fishing and Breathing are both important to life. I used to catch so many of those at Santa Monica. They were bigger back then. These little guys are fun to play with though.

I'm headed back to Newport Pier today. That should be fun.
