[#660000]Heed tips for a safe, enjoyable holiday camping trip[/#660000]
PROVO — Utahns venturing into the Uinta National Forest during the holiday weekend are asked to follow the safety tips below for a more enjoyable Fourth of July holiday.
• While fire restrictions have not been implemented for the Fourth of July holiday, use caution when building campfires, and be aware of surrounding vegetation. Make sure campfires are completely extinguished before leaving the campsite.
• Possessing or discharging any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices within National Forest System lands is prohibited at all times.
• Most campgrounds, trail and roads are open, with these restrictions: Vehicles with trailers will no longer be permitted to park at Whiting Campground trailhead from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During this time trailers will be required to park at the lower equestrian parking lots.
Diamond Fork Canyon will open July 2 after a four-year closure to complete the Diamond Fork System of the Central Utah Project. Restrictions prohibit undeveloped camping from the intersection with Spanish Fork Canyon (U.S. 6) continuing 12 miles to the Tanner Ridge area.
Travel maps are available at local Forest Service offices. For the most current recreation conditions, visit the Forest Service Web site at [#0000ff]www.fs.fed.us/r4/uinta/[/#0000ff].
