This is a river? Duh No!
#1
I thought that I would relate why my fishing in Idaho was lest than desired. Picked up my out of state license from an Orvis outlet which also is the hdqtrs for Reel Women. They provided a printed map which included fishing regulations for the Teton River. Well I set out for the first site closest to where I was staying. After traveling a rough gravel road for over 6 miles at speeds of between 5 & 15 mph I finally reached my destination. This was just one of my adventures hunting for a fishing location. I really don't want to see another gravel wash rut infested road for a long long time. Here are a few pics taken at this my journeys end which was suppose to be ideal for fly fishing. Duh I think not. Oh well I got to see the country side which was quite pretty.

That is a steelhead. All I caught was Cuts & Bows. Had my digital camera in the car however, there was no way I could have taken pictures wading around in the river.[/#005028]

[#005028]Hey there Xman, I did get over to the Teton river just past Tetonia. The river in that area was quite respectable. Caught a few Cuts fly fishing there. I also hit the South Fork just outside of Swan Valley. Spent most of my time there teaching my two nieces how to fish. Between the two [they both are around 50] I didn't even get a chance to wet a fly. Wouldn't have done much good as the current was almost white water in nature. A boat would have really been ideal letting us get to calmer waters. Hey, what the heck the girls had fun and that all that matters. One of them wants me to visit her later this year so that she and her young son can go fishing again.[/#005028]

thats cool. i was just up on the snake in that area this last weekend as well. ive spent the last few years trying to learn that water. its a big river always runs fast and is very deep. but i tell you it has by far the largest trout i have seen anywhere in alot of numbers. Sadly the catch rate is quite low since its so big and so much water to cover. anythign of size on the teton? have any problem with rattlers there?

[cool][#005028]Now you tell me about the rattlers. Fortunately I didn't see any. The fish I caught on the Teton were all small. Certaintly nothing to brag about. But all along the banks one could see thousands of small fry grouped from various hatches. Looks promising for the future. I could see areas where some sizeable trout were surface feeding but I would have needed a boat to get there. Couldn't tube there for the water was too swift. As a few folks launched their canoes near by I asked how they were going to get back. They all had another car waiting for them downstream. On the Snake one could see drift boats all over the place. Also some guys wading, but they had to be dropped off by a boat for they couldn't have gotten where they were unless they could breath under water [/#005028][#005028]and had an outboard motor attached to their butt. I guess local knowledge helps otherwise one winds up like I did driving all over trying to find a place that I could enter the water safely and not be carried downstream. [/#005028]
