Offshore fishing Bermuda
#1
[Wink]Well finally the live baits are putting in an appearance, "Live Baiting " for us are tiny Little Tunny locally called Frigate Mackerel, they range in size from 1/2 LB and up, right now they are about 8" in length.
Today we managed to get about a dozen of these prime baits, and ran to the offshore grounds where we immediately deployed two to the downriggers, rigged with 2 hooks to take care of short striking Wahoo. About 15 minutes later we had the first strike, and 10 min later our first nice Wahoo of about 40 lbs.
During the course of the next hour we hooked several more nice Wahoo, only to have the Sharks devour them long before we could get the fish to the boat, on one of these encounters the Shark (a Dusky) ate the Wahoo and became hooked on our line, providing a tough pull for the angler, and while we were fighting this critter to the boat another Shark crashed the outrigger line, so now we have two Sharks on at the same time, great confusion and whoops of joy from the anglers, the first shark we cut away, but decided to boat the second, it was all of 6 feet long and 120 Lbs plus.

We finished up the day with 4 Wahoos ranging from 35 to 45 Lbs, and one Blackfin Tuna of 22 Lbs plus the Shark.

There are plenty of small 15-30 Lb Yellowfin Tunas on the offshore grounds which provide us with some Tight Lines.
