COMINS LAKE
Cold weather and fair fishing for rainbow trout are being found at the White Pine County lake. White and yellow crappie jigs that are tipped with live worms are taking fish that weigh up to 2 pounds.
[#990033]EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR [/#990033]
Flood damage to State Route 322 has made the lake inaccessible. Repairs are now under way to repair the damage. It is covered with ice that is not safe for ice fishing.
[#990033]ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR[/#990033]
The reservoir is now full because of the recent storms, but the water is very murky. Ice covers a portion of the lake, but there is still enough open water for fishing. Two anglers who were fishing at the lake last week had no success.
Typical winter fishing has arrived at the lake with anglers having only limited success for striped bass and little or no success for largemouth bass. Rainbow trout are still being caught following weekly plants conducted by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
Boaters who have been fishing in the Las Vegas Wash area have been connecting with stripers that weigh around a pound. The fish are being taken by trolling, chumming and drifting with anchovies and jigging.
Boaters who were fishing outside the tires at Lake Mead Marina over the weekend reported to NDOW that they caught thin stripers with anchovies. Poor fishing was found during the weekend by boaters who were fishing in the Hemenway Harbor area.
Anglers who were fishing from shore at North Saddle Cove on Friday (1/14/05) told NDOW that they caught stripers that were 8 and 3 pounds. The fish were taken with yellow Bomber Long A lures.
Competitors in a local largemouth bass fishing tournament over the weekend at Echo Bay had poor results with only 5 bass being caught.
NDOW will stock rainbow trout Friday (1/21/05) at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.
Fishing has been extremely slow except for several large stripers that were caught near Cottonwood Cove following last week’s rainbow trout plants.
NDOW creel census clerks only saw four stripers over the weekend at Cottonwood, and all were reportedly caught in front of the marina with lures that imitate rainbow trout. On Saturday (1/15/05) they checked stripers that weighed 15.1 and 4.9 pounds and on Sunday (1/16/05) they weighed in fish that were 23 and 20.2 pounds. The 23-pound fish had 8 rainbow trout in its stomach.
Rainbow trout fishing has been fair following the weekly plants at Willow Beach. This week NDOW will stock more than 1,000 trout on Friday (1/21/05) at Aztec Wash.
[#990033]WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA[/#990033]
Approximately 90 percent of the water is covered with ice that is around 3 inches thick. Anglers have been going onto the ice even though NDOW cautions that the conditions may not be safe for ice fishing.
Good success has been found for rainbow trout at Adams-McGill, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Fish that weigh more than 2 pounds have been caught recently at Adams-McGill. PowerBait and live worms have been taking most of the fish.
[#990033]URBAN PONDS[/#990033]
Trout fishing has been fair with 10-inch fish having a preference for lures, such as small spinners, rather than baits. They also are hitting flies while they are sinking.
Rainbow trout will be stocked Friday (1/21/05) at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.
