Berry Pathetic Weekend
#1
Hit the Berry Friday & Saturday evenings. Got there both evenings around 4 p.m. and stayed until about 9 p.m.

Friday - Hit the Marina with my boys. Fishing flat stunk. I caught 1 fish and felt lucky to catch one! A few other bites and a few lost, but overall one of the slowest days ever for me at the Berry.... well... until...

Saturday - Hit Mud Creek and it was worthless. We scanned two fish.. yes.. two in 5 hours on the finder. We moved.. moved.. and moved again. Nothing. No bites, no fish, nothing... was by far the worst day of fishing in a long time for me.

Hitting the Gorge next weekend.

[cool]That's too bad things didn't go better for ya at the berry. Unfortunately, you picked two of the most pressured areas at the berry, and also two of the busiest days. Not a good combination. By the end of January those two places aren't very productive (for me anyway). This time of year you have to go further out than everyone else (not way deeper, just further out down the shorline, etc.). Good luck on your next trip out! Hope you nail 'em at the gorge.

I know this might be a little hard for all to believe after all the crummy reports but the Berry has been quite bit better than pathetic for me. Last week I slammed 49 in about 5 hours while 2 guys about 30 yards from me watched as they caught nothing. After about 4 hours of it they finally broke down and come over to ask what the secret was and it was shocking to find out that they were using the exact same thing. This week Thursday it was a little slower but still caught 38 including one pig at 24 inches. My wife decided she wanted in on the fun so I took her on Saturday and in 3 hours she caught 18 and I caught 31. She had a ball and said she would brave the cold with me again for fishing that fast. Her memories of fishing have always been catching Zilch until she met me.

Yep... time to move from the pounded areas. I too try to stay away and usually head to Haws/Renegade, etc. The problem is that it was great up until that storm. Oh well.. that's fishin!
[mad]

Time to get out the sled and get away from the crowds. Funny thing was it was vacant at both places, both evenings. It was worse for people the weekend before and fishing was great!

Fishbladder... what general area have you been hitting? The crowded areas or others?

Hey Fishin4fun;
I agree with whats been said about getting away from the areas that have now been pounded constantly by the army of weekend anglers. The slotties in those areas have now seen, smelt and tasted about everything to be offered and are a tad lip sore and perhaps shell shocked, and frankly, sick up and fed after being hooked and released 30 or 40 times in the past 6 weeks. HA!

Where are ya going to hit FG, soft water or hard, and will ya have a radio with you??

Has anyone really tried back further in the bay to the West of the marina? I don't mean the 100 yards to the campgrounds, I mean back towards the end of that bay. How about out near the mouth of Mud Creek?
Also, any new reports on ice conditions / slush conditions? It was frozen solid when I was there last week with no snow on top. I would like to get out again with the ATVs, but don't want to risk it if there is much slush or snow on top. I know those conditions can change almost overnight.

Thanks!

I was just up their the other day and the slush layer is all frozen up you can get a 4 wheeler on there real easy now, there was a 4 wheeler over by me who was pulling a big sled and two other people on with him, you shouldn't have any problem.
