FRENCHMAN LAKE: Ice fishing continues to be great. Nightcrawlers are the best bait. You can snowmobile across the lak enow, so Lunker Point is a good spot to fish, as well as the dam area. Fish averaging 1-to-2 pounds. Call for updated information. Wiggin’s Trading Post (530) 993-4683.
LAKE DAVIS: Ice fishing has been decent here. Worms and Powerbait working. Dollard’s Sierra Market (530) 832-5251. www.dollardsmarket.com. Email — dollards@psln.com. Mark Fore & Strike, 786-3474 or 322-9559
TRUCKEE RIVER: Some nice fish have come out recently. Robert Kerley from Carson City caught a 4- and a 5-pounder on Jan. 25 using a No. 11 countdown Rapala, brook trout color, in the middle of town. Mark Fore & Strike, 786-3474 or 322-9559.
PYRAMID LAKE: Shore fishing has been fair for both fly-fishermen and spinners. Spin guys are using spoons and fishing the deeper areas, going down about 20 feet and using Tor-P-Dos. Trollers using Flatfish in chub colors or purple and white. Also using Sting King lures in purple and black or police car colors. Vertical jiggers using crippled herrings or 1-ounce maribou jigs. Has been best around Spider Point. A 101/2 pounder was caught a few days ago and Bob Navarrete from Reno caught a 14-pound, 1-ounce fish on Jan. 25 using a firetiger Flatfish. Mark Fore & Strike, 786-3474 or 322-9559.
TOPAZ LAKE: Fishing has been fair to good. Fish are on the surface. Try No. 5 Rapalas in brook trout color or black and silver. Also try Needlefish in red dot frog and firetiger colors. Been better for boaters, shore fishing has been a little slow. Mark Fore & Strike, 786-3474 or 322-9559. Topaz Marina, 266-3550. Topaz Lodge 266-3338.
CAPLES LAKE: Ice fishing has been good here. Many opportunities to catch a big brown or mackinaw. A Rapala balanced jig will work well here. Mark Fore & Strike, 786-3474 or 322-9559.
SACRAMENTO RIVER: Flows at 3,700 c.f.s. Redding to Anderson, Calif. As weather allows, fly-fishing for rainbows is producing some nice trout in the Redding to Anderson area. PT's & Micro May Fly nymphs are working well.
