Four of us fished Hyrum dam on Saturday and did pretty well considering how cold it was. Well into the single digits when we started fishing (7:00). We fished in 17 feet of water up on the inlet end. There was a huge pressure crack in the ice so we couldn't go as far up as we wanted to. We caught a total of 48 rainbows and no perch. Most of the bows were small planters but a few were nice sized 16/17 inchers. Ice was about 7 to 8 inches thick. White boogers and crickets seemed to work the best tipped with mealworm or waxworm. The waxworm seemed to be the best early on. My friend and his boys went back on Sunday to the same area and fished for about five hours and did really well again using the same methods. Watch for ignorant fisherman who love to use you as their fishfinder. Plenty of rude people coming right up to us and camping in our comfort zone because we were catching fish. Must be the cologne I'm wearing.
