rockport 2-23
#1
Went to Rockport yesterday the 22nd. Fished up in the shallows at the South end. A friend has been catching some big perch up there in 15 feet of water. I caught only 12 perch and tons and tons of rainbows. I couldn't keep the slimmers off. I really wanted to take some perch home. 12 was enough for a meal though. I only fished for 2 hours. I think if the bows weren't so aggressive I could of caught a lot more perch. Just using a small jig tiped with a little nightcrawler, and I do mean little. But they still hit it. I didn't think I'd ever complain about trout hitting too fast. course I never thought I'd mean to fish for perch either. But the weather was great and the ice was 11 or twelve inches thick and cracking and popping, really talking. I love to hear the ice talk when it is thick. Happy fishing

Thanks for the report Keith, the Icefishingod did good for some larger perch a couple of days after you were there, he was also fishing shallow, so maybe thats the trick. Most of the guys are fishing in deeper water and catching a lot of perch but most are under 9.5 inches. What time did you start fishing? Was there any size to the perch and trout you caught? WH2

started fishing at about 8:30 and ended at about 10:30. On.y one nice sized rainbow. lots between 10 and 13 inches. The perch were all big but one medium male. Most were females. It was fun just catching fish that fast. It does't happen often.
