Stripers 3/11 @ Lake Mead
#1
Today, I finally tried my hand from shore, since my boat is still in the shop; after the trout plant at Lake Mead. As I was driving down into Hemmenway, the plant truck was coming out.
Since this was my first time, and not knowing just exactly where to go, I just looked for others along the shore line.
I began throwing Rainbow swimbaits, etc, to no avail. The trout were rising to the surface, but didnt see any Stripers chasing them. Another fisherman, named Pete, told me that the big ones wont be in the area until dark or so. Anyway, I finally dug out a Ratt-l-Trap in Shad colors and started throwing that. Wow, got a hit, or what I thought was a hit. It turned out that my first fish of the day was a snagged in the tail Trout of about 12 inches. Tossed out the Ratt-l-Trap again, and after afew casts, I got into a Striper of about 2 pounds (see photo). Released it back intot he water and started tossing again, and I got 2 more Stripers of about 1-1/2 lbs, and tossed them back. Infact, one of them had a mono line coming out of its mouth, and I could see a small bait hook lodged way down, but just cut off the mono closer. These 3 fish were within an hour of each other from 10 to 11 am, and then nothing else. Even the guides out in boats werent getting anything, so I felt good that I did at least get 3 small ones. Left about noon to come home. Tomorrow morning, early, might be a good time to hit the area again, and hopefully the "biggies" will be about. Water temp was very nice at about 64 degs.

[size 2] [font "comic sans ms"] Great job for your first time out. 3 fish from shore is pretty good. Your post says (see photo), no photo to see.

Take care,
David
