Was hoping to go to rockport saturday 3-26, is there any ice? Any ideas on fishing there in the spring? Going to take boat with downriggers, hopefully we'll get lucky. If anyone has any suggestions or helpful hints, i have 2 listening ears.

Ice was gone 2 week ago . I only fish it with ice so I am not going to be much help on what is working there now .

There is no Ice.
You can do well from a boat right now, but leave the downriggers at home, they will just get in the way and confuse things.
The way to fish at ice off is the same way we ice fish. Use the smallest offering you can find, Lots of dead dropping, very little movement. I drop to the bottom and then slowly jig up. Works really well. I have some small flutter spoons that kill them this time of year. The other good bait I use is minnows. I fish them either without weight or just 1 split shot. I want it to sink slowley like a dead minnow would. Fish an open bail and when you see the line stop sinking or suddenly accelerate set the hook.
The last tactic I use at the rock is trolling small rapala's. It will work better in another month. I use small fat raps with a shallow lip.
