Strawberry report 4-2
#1
[cool] Went to the Berry today. WOW was it a perfect day!!! Had to shed all the coats and layers of clothes to just tee shirts ( solar reflection of the snow made it very warm/hot)! FIshin was good too. Took the Sleds to the east side (opposite side of the Marina) near willow point. Found the best fishing in 30-40' of water just off the bottom. Landed approx 18 within the slot in 3.5 hours between the two of us. Lost twice that many!!! Errrrrrr We did land one 24" Cutt and it is still there for us all to catch again. Used paddle bugs with wax and mealy worms. Fish cops came by on Sleds and told us we were in a great spot! The only negative today was coming home and discovering how sun burnt we are. Oooooch are we burned!!! Ice is still 18" thick with 15" snow layer on top. NO slush. Perfect!!! Best Spring Ice fishing I've ever had at the Berry!!! FIsh are very healthy. The slot limit appears to be working, I hope the DWR keeps it in place so our children can all enjoy catching and releasing fish of this size and quality for years to come![Smile]

I went to strawberry today also. I applied sun screen twice during the day and still got a sunburn. We fished Mosquito Bay,between the three of us we landed about 18 cutts that where all in the slot. We where spotting most of the fish in 25' of water catching them on the bottom and suspened. As well as the ice is holding up I dout that it will be ice free by May 1st.

Hey MGB,

We were up there as well. I peeked over the hill to Mosquito bay, and I saw a few guys out there, I guess it was you. We fished back by Renegade. All but 2 or 3 of our fish came off of the bottom today. Sure was nice weather though.

We also spent the day up there in the clear air. But I can tell you this much: we had the 70 sun block along, and re-applied it 3 or 4 times. We got smoked so bad last weekend, we're still trying to heal up!
Our group just had to hoof it, so we weren't able to go too far away from the marina. But I did see a group across the way, all by themselves. Guess that was you, FN2DM.
While not catching as many as we did last weekend, still got into some quality cutts. And we also saw the fish cops. I asked them if they'd caught any violators today, and they said only one. So I guess the word on the slot is getting around some what. Still saw one clown using 2 poles, because he had a second pole permit. But didn't believe us when we told him that it's no good at the 'Berry. Amazing ...
We may try at least one more run, since the surface is holding up so well.

Thanks all for the reports. It sounds like there is almost no degradation of the ice up there. Excellent! I will be up there next Saturday. (Ugh, I had to work today. [pirate][pirate][pirate]) I supposed it to be my last hardwater trip, but it sounds like that may be premature.

I've never ice fished in April before, but I'm planning at least one more run ...
My sons-in-law won't let me put all the gear away, they've had so much fun up there!
