e Powell Help
#1
Hi Gang-

I am going to Lake Powell next week. I am looking for some guidance. I haven't been there for about 10 years. I would like to catch stripers and bass both bucketmouths and smallies (I hear the bass should be on their beds). We will be in the Bullfrog area. Any suggestions as to where, how and with what?

Gofish- I was going to ask the same question. I am going to Lake Powell the 28th-31st. I have never been to Powell and never fished for bass or striper so I am at a real diSadvantage here. I have spent several hours on wayneswords.com the last few days but would like some input from everyone else here on the board. We are going to Wahweep. I have no bass or striper gear so I need to buy some things for the trip. So what terminal tackle would you buy for the trip?

What are your top 5 favorite lures for smallies?

What are your top 5 favorite lures for stripers?

Where would you start fishing lafter aunching out of wahweep?

Maybe this will help Gofish and myself! Thank you for your suggestions.

Hey guys after being skuned down there I certainly am no expert. I would buy a fish-in-map 1st. It show past locations of fish hang outs. Bass ...... think plastics.. Stripers ... man I didn't even get a look from them. But they were always at least 30 feet deep. So you'll need gear to get it down to where they are. Anchovies trolled slow ( 1mph) worked for some. Hope this helps some good luck and let us know how ya did.

[Smile]If I had to use one lure for Powell, primarily for SM & LG mouth Bass, it would be a 1/4 oz jig head, with #1 hook size, with Yamamoto 5" grubs, Chartreuse color.

Put a piece of anchovie on the hook for vertical jigging for stripers. Night fishing with a submersible light has been good around Bullfrog.

Wayneswords website has a section with reports from other anglers that give some information on other lures and rigs, and location they are biting.

I personally would probably head over to Hall's Creek bay and fish structure, casting toward shore and retrieving, allowing the jig to go deep, so that you cover water from 5 to 30 feet deep.

I'm going to be at Bullfrog for a week starting the 29th of April. Please Post how you did on your trip.
Good Luck!

I fished Bullfrog twice last year (walking the bank both times)[Sad] but I still managed to catch quite a few smallies. I caught most of them on plastics; grubs, tubes, and worms but don't forget your crankbaits. I caught a lot on shad colored cranks when the wind picked up.
