Yellowstone & Island Park report
#1
Went on vacation with the family this week. First we went to Yellowstone where we found fishing quite poor. Success on Yellowstone lake has been very slow, and it didn't pick up for us. I ended up catching 1 nice Cutthroat on a Jake's lure. We had better success on nearby Lewis lake. Between the 8 of us we caught about 12 fish after many hours of fishing. 3 Browns and 9 Lake trout- all were under 18 inches. Many think fishing will pick up in the park with warmer temperatures.
After Yellowstone we went to the family cabin in Island Park. We were there only 2 days. We only fished on Saturday. It was very windy. We hit the river down by ashton but with the wind we ended up trying to control the driftboat and fixing wind-caused bird nests in fishing line more than fishing. In the very small time we devoted to fishing, I got one nice fish on the line but I ended up getting a little too excited and I broke the line. Fish were jumping EVERYWHERE. It was pretty stressful trying to get tangles out of your rod while you were being splashed by the fish jumping next to the boat. Still had a blast though. I just wish we weren't fighting the weather practically the whole vacation.
