[cool][#0000ff]I have been tubing at night for over 30 years. Obviously, it is good for catfish during the warmer months of summer. It is also good for largemouth bass, crappies, white bass and many other species.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The two key elements are knowing the waters you will be fishing after dark and safety. Most states require you to have lights on any craft after dark. It is a good idea, even if not required. It is also a good idea to fish in coves and other areas not likely to be used by speeding boats after dark. Never assume that you are visible or immune from getting run over, even if you have lights.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]You should be a good fisherman and know both the waters and the species you are after. If they hit different baits or lures at night, than during the day, you need to plan accordingly. For example, when fishing topwater lures for bass at night, using dark colors will make them easier to see against a darkened sky than will lighter or natural colors.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I love the quiet and solitude of quietly moving around on the calm waters of a brightly moonlit night. Most of the boaters and PWC are off the lake, and you sometimes have a small lake all to yourself. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I used to have a tradition, while living in Tucson, AZ, of fishing "the full moon in June" on one of my favorite tubing lakes. The moon was usually so bright that I did not need a light to retie hooks or lures. And, when the warm summer night was typically calm and breeze free, I could see the whole lake bathed in the moonlight. Sometimes the whole lake would be rippling and splashing with fish drawn up by the moon, the bugs and the shad feeding on the bugs. I had nights where I caught over a hundred fish, of several different species, fishing shallow running crankbaits or plastics. Even a magnificent sunrise the next morning was almost a disappointment when it broke the magic spell of darkness and moonlight.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Out here in Utah, we recently had a "Gorilla Flotilla"...fishing for catfish on the full moon night in August. Here is a link to that report.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]GORILLA FLOTILLA POST[/#0000ff] [signature] |
