Sat. Rabbit report....
#1
Went out to my secret spot on Sat. with Sasquatch and his dad...
I was cold all day but the walking kept us warm...
Saw over 250 bunnies and killed 24...
My magazine was messed up most of the day so the kill count was bad...
Going to head out in 2 weeks again...
There is still a lot of ground to cover out there...
Let me know if you would like to take along...

[#ff4040]Looks like there are still plenty of bunnies out that way eh. I will let you know if I can make it in 2 weeks...maybe if I can I will try and see if my buddy will let me use his sks instead of my shotgun. Now that would be fun![/#ff4040]

SKS makes a helluva mess of a rabbit!!! I have knocked down more than my share with an SKS and it can make a gruesome mess. The worst by far was when I hit a pregnant rabbit. Didn't know it was pregnant until after it was shot. I went up to it and....well...you can imagine. Not a nice sight to see.

I can't imagine shooting at a rabbit with the 7mm......too expensive for the shots. After a handful of trips you could have paid for an SKS. The cheapest 7mm shots I have found are $17 for 20 rounds. 20 rounds of SKS ammo is only a couple of bucks. A new Yugo SKS is around $170. I shoot the wolf ammo for bunny blasting and it does just fine. Nasty if you are rapid firing with a 30 round clip!

I have hunted bunnies since I was about 12 with my semi-auto 22, and have killed literally hundreds, if not up near a thousand or so. I actually have no idea how many, but have had many successful outings.

What I shoot depends on where I am and how the bunnies are acting. When I go to visit my brother in Elko, I pack both the shotgun and 22. The close rabbits are nearly impossible with a 22 as they are jumping at your feet and you only see them for a few more feet before they are in thick brush. Other areas are more open and you are shooting at 50+ yards, which is pretty much out of range for the shotgun to do a lot of good. The SKS interchanges with when I use the 22. That all depends on how close houses are, etc, because it can make some noise and scare people.

[#ff4040]When I take my 7mm I make sure the shot is going to be good. I would never shoot at running bunnies...it's like you said it would be too friggin expensive. Shotgun is the gun of choice for me. It's just a little more fun sometimes when you take just the rifle.[/#ff4040]
