What’s new in Michigan Outdoors? January 10th, dateline Lansing. Editor Bill Parker reports that Governor Jennifer Granholm’s appointment of Rick Wiener as her chief of staff "raised some eyebrows among Michigan’s hunting and fishing community." One critic is Jim Shaeffer from Safari Club International, who says, "Rick Wiener has been employed as a paid lobbyist for the Humane Society of the United States since 1995. For the last two years he was paid $15,000 to lobby our legislators here in Michigan with out-of-state funds from an animals rights extremist organization." He said Wiener was at the forefront of the opposition to the legalization of dove hunting in Michigan which passed the House and was defeated by just one vote in the Senate.
