Jan. 18 - West Beach - Santa Barbara
#1
Heard reports of some seabass caught near the bait receiver last weekend so I decided to tube instead of surf fish and give the seabass a shot. I tried the usual 6 inch Hammer and large Fastrac for about an hour and a half in the morning for nothing.

I was joined by Mike and Bryan and we commenced to look for halibut. Fishing the 3 inch Big Hammers on light tackle right up on the beach produced half a dozen or so halibut for us to 24 inches. My first legal of the year (the only fish I caught). Hot colors were Mackerel, Green Machine & Pepper Trout.

[cool] Hey, Pete. Cute kid and nice flattie. Were the fish in fairly shallow water then? Sorry you didn't find the seabass in a munchin mood.

Here's a pic of a "legal" halibut from my days in Santa Barbara...with my three towheads. Got the fish just outside the kelp, right off the beach in Summerland. Had a couple of those "spoolers" out there too...maybe big WSB...or maybe "hoonos".
