Buying a new rod?
#1
Every new rod you buy should come with a balancing
weight for the handle. This has made a big difference in hand fatique at the end of the day. A balanced rod and reel makes all the difference. Cabela's or Bass Pro carry these kits if you need to order them. Here are two different styles.
The Balancerâ„¢ Rod Balancing System

The secret is to precisely balance both your rod and your reel with The Balancerâ„¢, an amazingly simple and functional removable Butt Cap, which fits onto the rear end of most straight handled rods. One, two, or three Counter Balance Weights (included) fit into the Butt Gap and you can fine-tune even more precise balance with quarters (not included) from Uncle Sam. Make your rod up to 300% more sensitive!

there is nothing like a ballacned rod, takes a lot of tention off my casting rist. I swear I am getting a touch of arthoritess from using poorly ballenced rods.

would make a good article for the tips board, how to ballance your rod. A real need to know for people who spend at least one day on the water per week.
