Fishing Tip
#1
FISHING HOT SPOTS All fishermen have favorite locations when they are on the water. High percentage areas where they often catch fish or always mark fish on their electronics. When I'm working my HOT SPOTS I usually begin with lures that will attract the more aggressive fish. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and suspending jerkbaits. Make sure that you DON'T leave that area until you try some teaser lures. I use flukes, senkos, 4" & 5" grubs, and floating worms are good choices. While you are fishing the cranks, and spinnerbaits, etc. it will irritate and make the fish more aggressive. Thenwhen you're slowly working your teaser baits the fish are so riled up, that you have just stacked the odds in your favor for a reaction strike. I have used this technique in different seasons but I always keep this trick in my arsenal for early spring when it really shines. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.

Hey Gregg, that's a good tip, and a good observation. It makes alot of sense as well, you have to stir the cool aid before you pour a glass. I'll keep that in mind my next trip.

I've got some really noisey, jointed crank baits I can whip around for a few minutes. Then i'll try slowing it down a bit with a suspending worm.

Hey GreggM,

Excellent technique for gett the fish up and noticing. I use that when I am fishing in various situations for a number of fish. I call it artificial chumming as it does get the fish in the mood sometimes for the real thing.

Thanks for your feedback Tarpon4me & Fishhound. I rig the fluke, senko, and plastic worm with no weight and I use a very light hook. (wide gap). When rigging the 4 and 5 inch grubs I begin with an 1/8 ounce jighead and might move up to a 3/16 ounce when wind is present. The key for this presentation is S-L-O-W. (you don't want to twitch or jig these lures alot.)

I'm always after that trophy fish bite. From my experience, the larger fish are really territorial, and they can't resist the slow moving lure, especially after being teased.

Example: It is like having a younger brother that keeps tapping your shoulder. You probably will let him tap you 3 or 4 times, but watch out if he taps you the fifth time. When fishing for smallies, the teaser baits I use are hot pink, chartreuse, etc.

we use this trick as well. My buddy is in the front throwing spinnerbaits and I'm in the back throwing worms or beavers. He hates it when I get one but he loves the front. Good tip.
