Mr. Metal
I fished for catfish with my OLD father inlaw years ago and he always had the best, killer bait. What he did was this: Thak mackrel and cut it up into about one inch cubes. Put the pieces in a jar without a lid and put it in the sunshine. Get a few shrimp and put those in the same jar. In about one week you ll have the best natural food/bait.... The magots wont hurt the product at all. It will stink to no end but I think this was the first real stink bait.. You can buy stink, but the natural decaying fish seemed to be best.... SW [signature]

There are a bunch of dough baits on the recipe board.
Some of my favorite Catfish baits are ground up Anchovy, Sardine, Mackerel or squid in a little nylon bag. You can use 1 or all of the ingredients to create a nice scented slurry in the water. I have friend that have done well with just plain ole hot dog pieces on a hook.[cool] [signature]

Best baits for a few different species of cats:
1. CHANNEL CATFISH: Chicken livers are by far the most productive. Night Crawlers are probably a close second. 2. BLUE CATFISH: The most productive bait i've used for blue cats is fresh cut eel. Sometimes they'll hit a live bait. 3. FLATHEAD CATFISH: Live bait. My favorite bait for monster flatheads is about an 8 inch live crappie. Next in line would be a bream or carp. I've even caught bit flatheads on small channel catfish. Other catfish species, like bullheads, yellow, and spotted fall under the same catagory as the channel catfish as far as forage. [signature] |
