Lincoln Beach Resort Development
#1
[font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3]I just received plans in my office for Lincoln Point Resort & Recreational Development, proposed to be built just north of and adjacent to the County Park. I know some of you who frequent Lincon Beach will be interested in this. On paper it's a huge thing, but in my experience these things usually start out being much bigger than what is eventually built. Just some of the things shown here are 36 condos, several residential sites, RV Park, golf holes, tent areas, nature walking trails, theme gardens, picnic table areas, restrooms, public parking, gated entries for the residential areas, pool, tot lot and playground, volleyball area, tennis courts, parking garage, animal stables, and a pasture and riding arena. On the "land jetty" it shows a lighthouse and a paddle boat dock and harbor. The total acreage is 42 1/2 acres.

This is just a plan that's being submitted to us for County approval, but obviously a lot of money is being spent to find out if this project is feasible. I just thought some of you would be interested.[/size][/font]

[cool][#0000ff]If memory serves correctly, "just north of the county park" means that it will probably eliminate the "first spring" area for public use. A lot of anglers won't be happy about that...unless they get free use of the spa and the other foo-foo stuff.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It will also increase the traffic in the area something fierce. It has been kinda nice having some solitude once in awhile.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Thanks for the headsup. Keep us posted on progress.[/#0000ff]

Sigh,
Gotta love progress. I know that a lot can change before the finished product is presented, but it seems from this description that it would extend from "first spring" to the "L". (The "land jetty" described by the developer?) That will take away a great deal of good public fishing sites that many of us have enjoyed over the years.

I just wonder though how Thurston Howell III and Lovie will react when the clouds of midges and mosquitos rise up and blanket them each spring and summer as they always do down there?[Tongue]

This really is news to me. I really question why anyone would want a resort out there. I say let them have the resort on one condition: They first have to develop a solution to the carp problem.

[pirate]That really sucks. Hope that abomination doesn't get built. I thought that area was County owned land? Is it for sale, or is this private land that the owners just happen to "let" us fish on? Let's hope this one doesn't get going, because lack of solitude and more power squadrons are not something that would do that area more good...[pirate][pirate]

what no 7-11 or dommino,s ???? a look at the plans would be nice or a small scetched diaghram. im not so shure it would bring to mutch fishing pressure other than from the people,s kids that would move in. it acculaly might improve it. cutting off the shore access to the combatt sqaudren that over harvest the white bass.

[cool][#0000ff]The county land only goes to the fence line, just past the north dike. It is private all the way around from there. And, there has been a big FOR SALE sign on the old rock building for a long time.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the olden days (even before my time) there was a hot springs and resort already there...with a big naturally heated swimming pool, etc. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If they do build a hoity-toity resort, they can get rid of the carp and the bugs by just "evicting" them for trespassing. Yeah, right.[/#0000ff]

[#505000]I can' say that I like this idea one bit. [unsure][/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]The roads out there are narrow which means either newer bigger roads with lots more traffic will have to be built, or the existing roads are going to get really congested. Something that big will mean a lot of people. With them comes noise, fishing pressure, and more watercraft (power squadron). more people in the area means more people will be inclined to use the county park meaning shoulder to shoulder fishing, and possibly more trash. With the increased traffic out there I can guarantee the county will decide free boat launching or access to the county park for free is costing them too much (or they will see a prime opportunity for significant revenue) and a manned fee station will go in place. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Developments of this magnitude also tend to attract more of the same, meaning if you build condos out there then gas stations, homes, businesses ect.. soon follow. Before long an already crowded popular fishing spot becomes an "urban" oasis, or a club for the rich and priveleged. Look at Saratoga Springs, and some of the lake shore properties there. [/#505000][#505000]With these projects come "improvements" which tend to alter the lake shore some with man made beaches, and limit fishing access. I'm guessing the Springs will be greatly "improved" upon.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000][#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]I really sincerely hope I am wrong, but I see nothing but bad coming out of this. One could hope the midges and lake stink would discourage such a project, but I doubt it. With the development you would see midge numbers plummet anyway. Get rid of the sage brush and habitat and they would move to another area of the lake. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]I'm not anti-progress or anti-development I just see the impact on those who already use this area (a lot of us) to be very drastic. Even if our ability to fish this area isn't compromised, I see the quality of the fishing, both the catching and the overall experience being severly affected. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]In reality there probably are some real postive things that could come of this. Increased law enforcement presence (less poachers maybe), better litter clean up, improvments to the county park, but overall I think the negative impacts will be far more apparent. [/#505000]

the lake shore is fedral land up to a certain ellivation. chuck and i have had many run ins with farmers down there hunting over the yrs and lerned a litle about the lake shore. i dont see the feds selling out migrattory bird habbitat unless moore is built on private land to compensate. just like the duck marsh when the air port expanded they had to build moore marsh than they took. its probley not a bad thing but things will change for those who fish it like us walleye guys. other than getting to pay to launch the boats. no biggie or park. i life nothing stays the same change is the only thing we can count on. truth is truth and thats it.

[size 3]Our meeting with the developers is scheduled for Nov. 15 and I'll know a lot more after the meeting. Many of these turn out to be pipe dreams and don't ever happen, or happen on a much smaller scale, or the feasibility study turns up things that prevent the project from getting off the ground. I'll keep you posted on what's happening with it. [/size]

Thanks for the heads up. I can add to the objection already voiced. I hope this proposal dissolves. That is what I liked about Lincoln.....solitude. I would hate to see another Saratoga made out of it. We should start a gigantic protest lobby to keep Lincoln in it's unspoiled natural state for the public to enjoy. This should become a heated environmental issue.

is this whole development part of the reason the last time I was down there all of the access except the boat ramp was fenced off? My normal launch spot at the "L" was unaccessable. It's been several weeks since I was down there, but if I have to motor all the way around the corner in my little pontoon it will certainly change my fishing habits down there. That's an awfully long ways away from my vehicle if the wind picks up.

Mister-

Thanks for the great information. Interesting....

What city or county do you work for? Are you a city planner?

Thanks!

Nate
