Auger Maintenance
#1
[red]I have owned my auger for two years now and after reading the operator manual I have a few questions.[/red]
[red][/red]
[red]I have the Eskimo Shark and love it.[/red]
[red][/red]
[red]The questions. 1) Is says something to the effect to check the grease level in the gear case? Is this something everyone does, or is it not that important. If it needs to be checked, where do I check it at?[/red]
[red][/red]
[red]Question 2 It suggests that I clean the air cleaner every 3 months or after 20 hours of operation. I take it this is the air filter. Is this for earth augers or is this something that all motorized auger owners need to do?[/red]
[red][/red]
[red]I have started it up for the year and like expected it started first pull and ran smooth as a purring kitten. I just read the Operators Manual and wondered about these two things.[/red]

I have never done any of these things on my motorized weed wacker, but I could live with out my weed wacker. My auger, that is a different story!

You could do like I have for the past 2 seasons.
My auger quits on me and I take it back.
I'm not sure that this is a good way to go, but it has been by bad luck so far to have to do this.
The worst part is that the ice is at its thickest in the spring when the auger breaks down and I have to use my hand auger![:/]

[red]Man it seems you have had some bad luck with your auger! Mine has worked like a champ except for the broken fuel cap. But I can only blame myself for that for the auger falling on the ice. I have drilled 33 inches of ice at Strawberry with mine no problem and also drilled tri-holes no problem at Bear Lake. [red]But for future reference, what has malfunctioned on yours that I can keep my eyes out for?[/red]

Rob, if you want to get together to do some maintenance let me know. I have the same auger and we could hammer them out quick. I still need to fire up my auger, been in storage for too long.

Two of mine would not run at high altitude and one cratered the pull starter.
All could have been fixed by a service rep but Sportsman's doesn't do repairs. They just replaced the augers.
